WI ACT 1 and More!
Since the start of the new year, the Wisconsin State Assembly has been meeting weekly and working to diligently craft legislation aimed to move the state past the public health emergency, and into the future. Read below to find out about some of the important measures passed recently...
2021 Wisconsin Act 1
I was fortunate to have one of my bills, 2021 Assembly Bill 2, be the first bill signed into law this year. This law brings to fruition more than a year of effort to afford every Wisconsin taxpayer relief and reward. In addition to providing clarity to Wisconsin’s tax code and tax administration, Wisconsin Act 1 prohibits the state from collecting income tax on PPP and other relief dollars granted to struggling Wisconsin businesses. Wisconsin Act 1 enjoyed strong bipartisan support with only a handful of lawmakers voting against the legislation.
Special Session Assembly Bill 1 - Unemployment Changes
February 23 marked 307 days since Wisconsin was shuttered and workers were left unemployed through no fault of their own.
Special Session Assembly Bill 1 (SSAB1), passed on February 23, will require the Department of Workforce Development to work with the Department of Administration to get the IT system update started, and an amendment was approved to protect businesses, schools and local governments from frivolous lawsuits. Now is the time to clear the unemployment back log once and for all.
COVID-19 Vaccine Access
While much of the COVID-19 vaccine distribution in Wisconsin has been under the purview of Department of Health Services, the Assembly passed Assembly Bill 120 on March 16, which removes legal hurdles and helps to expand access to vaccines both in our community and across the nation.
