District Day with Rep. Wittke

Support Local Business

It was an honor to present Russ, Pam and Brian Kortendick with a Legislative Citation recognizing Kortendick Ace Hardware's 70th Anniversary in Business! Kortendick Ace Hardware has been family owned and operated since opening in 1951, and has served three generations of customer needs; from home improvement and gardening supplies, to gifts, toys and sporting goods. Supporting local, family owned businesses makes a difference!

Congratulations and thanks for your continued service to our community!

State Assembly Committees

The Assembly Committee on Ways and Means met this week. The Committee heard from many veterans and other service members on a bill to reduce the eligibility threshold to claim the veterans and surviving spouses property tax credit. The Committee then heard testimony on several tax incremental districts (TIDs) as to expansion for development projects and including structures currently in a TID for environmental remediation.

You may be interested to read more about these bills using the Wisconsin Legislature website. Use the search box and type in AB 245, AB 377, AB 517, AB 575 for a full history of the bills heard in the Committee on Ways and Means.

UW-Madison Chancellor Visit

I recently had a dynamic discussion with Chancellor Rebecca Blank of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. We discussed the importance of UW Madison as Wisconsin's flagship University, as well as the needs of UW System Schools across the state.

Communicating with University System Leadership and UW Chancellors provides valuable information for the work I do on the State Building Commission, as well as legislation that comes before me as a member of the Assembly Committee on Colleges and Universities. For example, did you know that nearly 80 percent of UW-Madison students graduate with a degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) field? I did not. Nurturing these programs will help grow Wisconsin's economy for years to come.

In the District

Today, Friday, October 15, my staff and I will be touring the 62nd Assembly District distributing Blue Books and other educational materials to schools and municipal offices. We've also begun to send out Blue Books to those who've requested them.

Please email my office at rep.wittke@legis.wisconsin.gov to request a Blue Book for the next round of distribution.
